Montenegro: young charming country
We have already written about it some time ago (here), but today we would like to reveal the next secret, which undoubtedly is still Montenegro. It is an extremely young country, which was formed as a result of an independence referendum, which resulted in the separation from Serbia in 2006. It is located in the heart of the Balkan cultural cauldron – Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina are its neighbors. Montenegrins are a very proud nation that values ββits independence and freedom. Their culture is obviously influenced by neighboring countries, which means that in this really small country, wealth is found at virtually every step. You don’t have to be afraid of entering Montenegro – the people who live there will greet us in a royal way.
The fullness of the world at a glance
Despite recent conflicts, Montenegro is quickly recovering from economic and political difficulties. As a coastal country with a warm subtropical climate on the coast and Alpine in distant mountains, it eagerly invests in tourist development. Adriatic blue, high mountains slopes descending straight into the sea. These cover almost the entire surface of the country except the coast and the Zeta Valley, where Podgorica is located, i.e. the capital of Montenegro. Along the coast of the country there are 75 kilometers of beautiful beaches and charming coves. We will meet here a coast covered with lush vegetation, but also gray, bleak mountains and inaccessible, wild areas. Apart from natural wonders, there are many monuments there, the lion’s share of which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. All this makes Montenegro appear as a real gem, which is really worth visiting and enjoying its beauty.
Montenegrin Miami, fjords and other attractions
Boka Kotorska is the most famous bay in the entire Balkans. resembles Norway. The Adriatic cuts deep between gray rocky mountains here. The landscape is harsh, so the fjord associations are the most accurate. The Romans, Greeks, Goths and Saracens fought for Boka Kotorska, and Venice conquered it in the 15th century. The main city of Boki, or Kotor , is famous for its never being conquered by invaders. The city even resisted the Turks, who for several centuries ruled over this part of Europe. From T the verses of St. Jan high above the city, there is a beautiful view of the gloomy rocky peaks reflecting in the sea, which cuts into the land with a long, winding tongue. Such a view is worth every effort associated with exhausting climbing. There are no beaches there, so sunbathing enthusiasts are looking for lodging in the surrounding towns, which are typical seaside resorts. Kotor is also a labyrinth of narrow streets, where the shadow of historic buildings has many climate pubs with local specialties.
All amateurs of nightlife are attracted by Budva . The Montenegrin resort famous for its beautiful beaches is teeming with life and disco music. The silence and atmosphere of the past centuries can also be found in Budva – walking along the streets along the defensive walls of the stone old town. Budva beaches are golden, long and wide. In the center is the popular, pebble and pebble Slovenska Beach . Further from the center are the Jazz and Tresteno beaches, where wind and wind lovers can go windsurfing and waterskiing. Because of its rich entertainment offer, Budva is called Montenegrin Miami . Cafes, clubs, discos, casinos – a paradise for party people.
Near the border with Albania lies the picturesque Ulcinj . Despite quite crowded Ulcinj is almost vacation Eden – the sea is clean and turquoise here, nature and weather are beautiful, and the choice of beaches is extremely rich. The Great Beach in Ulcinj is sandy, it has up to 13 km length and is considered the largest on the east coast of the Adriatic Sea. Apparently, the sand on this beach has therapeutic properties and even soothes rheumatic pains. Small Beach, in turn, as the name suggests, is not impressive in size, but its great advantage is the location – it is located right next to the old town. The city itself is also extremely interesting. There is a large cultural and religious mix here. Its presence is particularly marked by Islam, and Ulcinja’s climate is somewhat oriental. Interestingly, naturists have their housing estate near the Ada beach, which is created especially for them.
In the depths of the country, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Durmitor mountains is the deepest canyon of Europe – the Tara canyon . Canyon rocks rise up to 1,300 meters above the riverbed. Many tourist agencies, including those located on the Montenegrin coast, organize one or several days pontoon rafting on the Tara. Rafting Tara provides many emotions and unforgettable impressions. The mountain river quickly lifts the pontoons, which, among the cries of terrified tourists, bump into stones and bounce on rocky thresholds. The views that you can admire are amazing: wild mountains overgrown with dense forest and steep canyon walls – nothing but ores and achy lurks on the lips.
Don’t think that this is all Montenegro has to offer. We only gave you a small teaser to encourage you to stimulate your imagination and awaken the desire to leave. We hope that at least in part we succeeded π
