This is happening in today’s Serbia, near the city of Bajina Bašta . In 1969, a group of teenagers sought a convenient place to relax and sunbathe. The huge, bare rock in the middle of the Drina River was perfect for this. Initially, it was supposed to be only a platform enabling free stay in this peculiar area, but soon the idea took on a much larger size. Young people transported building materials by boat and kayak, and larger items were let down over the river. There was only room in the house for one room, but it was the crowning of their dreams. Despite the uncomfortable location, the building survived for over 40 years, although Drina’s swollen waters swept the house several times and its hosts sought it for many kilometers down the river and transported it back to its place – each time it was rebuilt on ever more stable and durable foundations. . Probably no one would have heard of Kućica na Steni (or Kućica na Drini) until now, if not for August 2, 2012 . Then the photograph of Irene Brecker, showing just this house, became “photo of the day” in National Geographic . Dom na Drinie had to wait for real fame and publicity. Only after some time did articles appear in Daily Mail and The Huffington Post . Since then, real madness has prevailed. Crowds of tourists began to visit western Serbia in search of a “wonderful home”. The inhabitants themselves have also generally undergone a general variation because they nominated Dom na Drinie for the title of one of Serbia’s seven wonders. The tourist business in the beautiful Drina Valley, at the foot of the Tara massif and the Dinaric Mountains, finally accelerated. Fortunately, because the whole area is extremely picturesque and has a lot to offer …
